Seymour Hersh: Bin Laden Raid “One Big Lie”

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh says that the raid which killed Osama Bin Laden in 2011 is “one big lie” and that “not one word” of the Obama administration’s narrative on what happened is true.

Image: President Obama.

In a wide-ranging interview published today by the Guardian, Hersh savages the US media for failing to challenge the White House on a whole host of issues, from NSA spying, to drone attacks, to aggression against Syria.

On the subject of the Navy Seal raid that supposedly resulted in the death of the Al-Qaeda terror leader, Hersh remarked, “Nothing’s been done about that story, it’s one big lie, not one word of it is true.”

Hersh added that the Obama administration habitually lies but they continue to do so because the press allows them to get away with it.

“It’s pathetic, they are more than obsequious, they are afraid to pick on this guy [Obama],” Hersh told the Guardian.

The raid that supposedly led to Bin Laden’s death has been shrouded in mystery for over two years. Speculation that the Obama administration may have embellished or outright lied about the true account of what happened has persisted, mainly because the White House has refused to publicly release images of Bin Laden’s body.

Although the White House said the corpse was immediately “buried at sea” in line with Islamic tradition, it quickly emerged that this was not standard practice.

Numerous analysts have claimed that Bin Laden had in fact been dead for years and that the raid on his alleged compound in Pakistan was little more than a stunt.

Other questions also persist, such as why the narrative and timeline of the raid has changed multiple times, why the White House initially claimed that “situation room” photos showed Obama watching the raid live when in fact there was a blackout on the live feed, and whyneighbors in the immediate area surrounding the compound said with absolute certainty that they had never seen Bin Laden and that they knew of no evidence whatsoever to suggest he lived there.

During the rest of the Guardian interview, which is well worth reading in its entirety, Hersh lambastes the corporate press and particularly the New York Times, which he says spends “so much more time carrying water for Obama than I ever thought they would.”

Hersh’s solution is to shut down news networks like NBC and ABC and fire 90% of mainstream editors, replacing them with real journalists who are outsiders and not afraid to speak truth to power.

“The republic’s in trouble, we lie about everything, lying has become the staple,” concluded Hersh.

US nearly detonated atomic bomb over North Carolina – secret document

Ed Pilkington
London Guardian
September 21, 2013

A secret document, published in declassified form for the first time by the Guardian today, reveals that the US Air Force came dramatically close to detonating an atom bomb over North Carolina that would have been 260 times more powerful than the device that devastated Hiroshima.

The document, obtained by the investigative journalist Eric Schlosser under the Freedom of Information Act, gives the first conclusive evidence that the US was narrowly spared a disaster of monumental proportions when two Mark 39 hydrogen bombs were accidentally dropped over Goldsboro, North Carolina on 23 January 1961. The bombs fell to earth after a B-52 bomber broke up in mid-air, and one of the devices behaved precisely as a nuclear weapon was designed to behave in warfare: its parachute opened, its trigger mechanisms engaged, and only one low-voltage switch prevented untold carnage.

Each bomb carried a payload of 4 megatons – the equivalent of 4 million tons of TNT explosive. Had the device detonated, lethal fallout could have been deposited over Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia and as far north as New York city – putting millions of lives at risk.

Though there has been persistent speculation about how narrow the Goldsboro escape was, the US government has repeatedly publicly denied that its nuclear arsenal has ever put Americans’ lives in jeopardy through safety flaws. But in the newly-published document, a senior engineer in the Sandia national laboratories responsible for the mechanical safety of nuclear weapons concludes that “one simple, dynamo-technology, low voltage switch stood between the United Statesand a major catastrophe”.

FBI calls populace with 9/11 doubts potential terrorists, that’s over half America!

The FBI is instructing local police departments and “communities against terrorism” to consider anyone who harbors “conspiracy theories” about 9/11 to be a potential terrorist, in a circular released to local police departments.

The memo thus adds 9/11-official-story skeptics to a growing list of targets described by federal law enforcement to be security threats, such as those who express “libertarian philosophies,” “Second Amendment-oriented views,” interest in “self-sufficiency,” “fears of Big Brother or big government,” and “Declarations of Constitutional rights and civil liberties.”

A newly released national poll shows that 48 percent of Americans either have some doubts about the official account of 9/11, or do not believe it at all.

The FBI circular entitled “Potential Indicators of Terrorist Activities Related to Sleepers” says that people who should be ‘considered suspicious’ of possible involvement in “terrorist activity” include those who hold the “attitude” described as ” Conspiracy theories about Westerners.” The circular continues: “e.g. (sic) the CIA arranged for 9/11 to legitimize the invasion of foreign lands.”

“Sleepers” refers to “sleeper cells,” in FBI jargon, which are terrorists awaiting orders to be activated into terrorist activity.

In 1998 it was declassified by the Pentagon that the Joint Chiefs of Staff had approved a plan, in 1962, to attack and kill US citizens to “provide justifications for US military intervention in Cuba.” The plan was code-named Operation Northwoods, the face page of the declassified document is below.

The plan was signed by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, General Lyman Lemnitzer. It was rejected by President John F. Kennedy, who demoted Lemnitzer.

According to the polling firm YouGov, 38% of Americans have some doubts about the official account of 9/11, 10% do not believe it at all, and 12% are unsure about it.

The FBI circular, issued by the Department of Justice Assistance, an arm of the US Department of Justice, is posted at, among other departments, the Columbus, Ohio, police department website. The citizen’s watchdog PublicIntelligence.net has also posted a copy. The FBI document also includes as reason for suspicion of involvement in terrorist activities:

“Excusing violence against Americans on the grounds that American actions provoked the problem.”

The latter is an apparent reference to thinking such as the “blowback” doctrine, which criticizes US foreign policy and links alleged errors in that policy, such as the invasion of iraq, to terrorist activity.

US Army Major General Albert Stubblebine

The document cites “fury” at the “global policies of the U.S.”

Among well-known doubters of the official 9/11 account are many military officerslaw enforcement personnel, firefighters, and pilots, all working through affinity groups. One is US Army Major General Albert Stubblebine, who has said of the three buildings which fell on 9/11:

“They didn’t fall down because airplanes hit them. They fell down because of explosives went off inside. Demolition.”

Most recently, former Fox News anchorman Ben Swann has questioned the official 9/11 story.

This September 11th a group of citizens, architects, and engineers, led by families of 9/11 victims, unveiled an international ad campaign questioning the official version of 9/11. The campaign is sponsoring signs and billboards around the world which ask the question: “Did you know a third tower fell on 9/11?”

The 9/11 issue has been actively pursued on the Internet, and largely excluded by the major media. However, news organizations such as Time have covered the architects and engineers billboard campaign, sponsored by a group called 2,000 Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth.

Bloggers and other citizens have long argued that the science employed by the official story is impossible, and that the three towers must have been destroyed by some other means. As the FBI circular states, some argue that 9/11 was planned by a covert, relatively small but well-placed coup faction within the US government “to legitimize the invasion of foreign lands,” notably Iraq and the Middle East. In 2005 General Wesley Clark, former presidential candidate, said that he was given a copy of a memo by a ranking member of the Bush administration that revealed that war hawks in the Pentagon planned on attacking “seven countries in five years,” with Iraq only the beginning.

Other federal law enforcement agencies have been criticized for sweeping characterizations of potential terrorists, which demonize Constitutionally protected activity. In 2011, 18-year law enforcement veteran James Wesley Rawles warned that the Department of Homeland Security was being trained to consider as potential terrorists, among other people, those who had expressed “libertarian philosophies, “Second Amendment-oriented views,” “Self-sufficiency (stockpiling food, ammo, hand tools, medical supplies,) “Fear of economic collapse,” “fears of Big Brother or big government,” and “Declarations of Constitutional rights and civil liberties.” Since Hurricane Katrina, food stockpiling consultants and merchants have reported greater-than-ever activity and interest in storing long-term supplies of non-perishable food and water supplies.

In 2012 NetworkWorld.com reported on an entire set of “Communities Against Terrorism” circulars coming out of the Bureau for justice Assistance.

Obama Says U.S. Prepared to Strike Iran

Zachary A. Goldfarb
Washington Post
September 15, 2013

President Obama declared Sunday that the United States is still prepared to act militarily to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons despite the decision to pursue a diplomatic deal and not strike Syria over its alleged use of chemical weapons.

Obama spoke in an interview broadcast on ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos,” taped Friday before the United States and Russia agreed on a plan to bring Syrian chemical weapons under international control in order to avoid military strikes.

But Obama said Iran should not interpret the diplomatic response — coming after he threatened to use strikes — as suggesting that the United States wouldn’t attack Iran to stop the development of nuclear weapons.

“I think what the Iranians understand is that the nuclear issue is a far larger issue for us than the chemical weapons issue, that the threat. . . against Israel, that a nuclear Iran poses, is much closer to our core interests,” Obama said. “My suspicion is that the Iranians recognize they shouldn’t draw a lesson that we haven’t struck [Syria] to think we won’t strike Iran.”

He wants to look like a leader so he comes out with this. Values? Moral reprobate values are what he has on every single level. Playing politics in his second term to look like Big Man on Campus. He should go back to leadership school and learn how to be a real leader.

The American people see through this. The military has seen through his war mongering and vascillations thoroughly. Now he is out to save face and the plummeting approval ratings. Over 110,000 dead Syrians through use of proxy wars. Millions in refugee camps He places no value on human life. Disgusting. 75 percent of the military will not fight a war against Syria. I guess he is out for a higher number of rebellion in the ranks.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has accepted Iran’s invitation to visit Tehran to work out a strategy for the Islamic regime’s nuclear program, Fars News Agency reported Saturday. The West believes the Iranian program is a front for developing nuclear weapons.

Putin, seen by Iran’s clerical establishment as a strong opponent to America and the West — especially after his successful political play on averting a U.S. missile strike on Syria — was approached by Iran to protect the Islamic regime in the face of continued pressure by the West over its illicit nuclear program. Russia and the U.S. reached agreement Saturday to take control of Syrian President Bashar Assad’s chemical weapons arsenal by mid-2014.

Fars, the media outlet run by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, said Putin will soon travel to Tehran, although details of the trip have yet to be announced. Fars said Iranian President Hassan Rowhani issued the invitation to Putin on Friday while both leaders were attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said the Russian president accepted.

“Russia could possibly take new steps in solving the Iranian nuclear dossier,” Rowhani said. “The Russian initiative in relation to the Syrian chemical weapons and the steps taken by the Syrian officials provide this hope that a new war can be averted in the region.”

Oath Keepers “Organize a neighborhood Militia NOW”

Sept 8th Coast to Coast Program. John B Wells interviews the founder of Oath Keepers, Mr. Stewart Rhodes in hour 2nd Hour. A called to Arms. During the interview Rhodes successes that all the listeners read: When Money Dies, by Fergusson, Adam.

Joining John B. Wells, Stewart Rhodes, founder and President of Oath Keepers, argued that there’s a relentless campaign going on to centralize power, militarize the police, and strip power out of the hands of average citizens. This kind of situation sets people up for a dictatorship, such as seen in Stalinist Russia and Nazi Germany, he remarked. Rhodes believes that economic collapse and the ensuing chaos will be used to accelerate the centralizing of power, and the scrapping of the US Constitution.

His organization, the Oath Keepers, works with military veterans, law enforcement, and first responders to remind them of their oaths to defend the Constitution, and not “just follow orders” that go against the people. Their mission also includes training these veterans and officers to become community leaders, to be able to step in during a crisis, and not just wait for FEMA to belatedly offer help. It’s critical that people get involved with their own community, such as participating in a Neighborhood Watch, and learning what skills their various neighbors have, he suggested, adding that it’s also important to understand the logistics of communications, clean water, and power on the local level.

The real war going on is the elites versus the free people of the world, whom they seek to usher into a police state, Rhodes stated. The American people have to get back to their independence, starting with self-sufficiency and food reserves, yet the survivalist approach of working in isolation isn’t going to work, he commented. We have to think in terms of community, he said, such as a local VFW forming its own battalion.
Syria & Geopolitics

First hour guest, political scientist Joel Skousen provided insights on world affairs such as the situation in Syria. He doubted that Assad was behind the chemical attacks on Syrian civilians. The US and Israel have been looking for a way to justify an attack on Iran, and they hope by attacking Syria, Iran may support Assad with a retaliation, which would open the door for a war with them, Skousen posited. The US wants to target Iran not only to curtail their nuclear weapons development but to cut them off as an oil supplier to China, he continued, adding that he foresees an eventual war between the US and Russia & China.
