Stewart: Can we stop buying sh**ty companies?

Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart doesn’t think that the American taxpayer got a very good deal by investing in General Motors.

“We gave you twenty billion dollars and you still declared bankruptcy,” Stewart mocked on his Daily Show Tuesday night, “we could have done that for free.”

After noting that the US now owns 60 percent of a company worth “negative ninety billion dollars,” Stewart asked the government — personally — why “we keep buying shitty companies.”

This video is from Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, broadcast June 2, 2009.
